That’s great news. Thank you for sharing how much therapy has helped you out. I love my therapist. After I got widowered two years ago, I really needed someone like that and found one.
Glad you listened to your body and figured out how to start working on recovery. It’s the most loving thing you can do for yourself, your career, future colleagues, and especially for your family. Hoping you get all the healing needed.
Crying is good. It can clear away debris of old beliefs about ourselves. I understand mental health issues. I've been treated for depression and anxiety for 30 years. And I understand feeling undeserving. Take a deep breath. You deserve the recognition. You deserve success. You are amazing. Love you and thank you for all that you do. You are a gift to the world.
Sweet Baby Jesus, speak the truth Brother Corey! I was just watching a You tube video of a Senate Meeting on Fentayl and I was screaming at Tim Scott( well technically my phone), " We the mother fucking people are in the middle if an existential crisis, alcohol consumption is up, daily mass shootings, road rage, politically motivated attack...for fuck sake life is fucking killing us". In other words, I agree with your idea about Mental Health Care being free to all. Additionally you and your family have been sick, you just had the Holidays, be kind to yourself! I am so happy to hear your heart, you are a sweet kid, a great Husband and Father, your Mama loves you, and so do we out here in the substack and Skewniverse!
You don't need to apologize for sharing your experience, even when it's not all sunshine & roses. Like you said, if people don't like it, they won't listen. I personally relate to your discussion of your mental health experiences & the feeling of not being good enough.
On top of those things that you've been working through, being a parent of an infant takes a lot of time & energy, & it's harder to focus on your mental health when you're physically run down. When I listened to the details of your delayed dinner earlier this week, I was cracking up because even though it's been at least a decade since my kids were in diapers, I remember the constant go go go.
Then we have the post-holiday let down, shortened daylight, & cold weather. I took off work for 2 weeks while school was on break, & it was ROUGH to get back into the swing of things this week.
You are allowed to have time to be in a funk/pull back/recharge/whatever best describes it. We're glad to hear from you when you're ready.
As with most shitty things in this country, lack of accessible mental health care can be blamed on Reagan.
In all seriousness, you are a gift to the world. Yes, because of your talent, but also because of your heart, honest vulnerability and efforts to normalize talking about mental health.
Your park “rants” make me cry on the regular because they are relatable. Everyone is looking for connection, whether they realize it or not. Listening to someone say “I cried when I heard that because I didn’t realize how much I needed to hear it” instantly makes other people feel less alone because every single one of us has experienced that but likely never articulated it. Some because they aren’t comfortable being vulnerable, others because they have no one to talk to.
I’ve listened to the WellRed podcast literally since episode one (when it was just Trae talking about intricate political topics with his big ole knowledge-filled smarty pants brain) and have listened to your journey from constantly putting yourself down to someone who realizes their worth. You are right...happiness doesn’t come from others, but validation often does. And sometimes that’s exactly what we need. So glad Lewis Black was able to see what the rest of us see and communicate it at the exact time you needed it most. I hope it’s a core memory you can revisit the next time you need a bit of a serotonin boost in the future. ❤️
Sorry, Corey! It appears I have not done my due diligence in appreciating you! I am so amazed by you and so proud of you as a new dad! I appreciate you every day, whether you post or not!
all love to you Cho this really hit for me in the season of life i'm in right now. extremely proud of you and what an incredible honor from such a great man. I met Lew at my first show I went to of his and he was so darn nice to my 18 year old self. i appreciate you sharing so much of your life and creativity with us, you've helped me through a lot!
100% with you on the medication & therapy. We finally managed to get to a place where we can get my wife on medication for her anxiety, t's been an absolute game changer for us.
& the Christmas Story was worth the $5 & more all on it's own for last month!!
Oh, my God, buddy. This hit me so hard and so deep. I think I needed to hear it as bad as you needed to say it. From needing validation to not feeling like you deserve said validation to getting imposter syndrome, to going through creative funks, to wondering if you’re making the right decisions for yourself and your kid to trying to balance what’s best for your kid vs what may be best for you.....I would say “get out of my head” but please don’t, because it appears I need you in there. And, Corey, for whatever it’s worth, what Lewis Black shouting you out did for you, you shouting out my Substack did for me. Love you, buddy. I mean that.

You deserve all the best and congratulations. We all are so proud of you and understand when there are times life sucks. Love you like chicken. ✌️❤️

Much love ❤️
You be good.
First take care of yourself.
Then take care of your people.
Then take care of yourself.
Then do the thing you do.
Then take care of yourself.
Only then, worry about us.
And worry about us constantly 'cuz we be important.
Then take care of yourself.
Be good.

You are so right about it being a money thing.
