"Are we ... awake?"

"I don't know... are we... black?

Can't believe Gig Young was originally cast in that role.

Yes, do a movie podcast, please, please, please!

"Them sy-reens loved him up and turned him into a horny-toad!"

I suffer from the megrims (old-timey word for depression) but ironically -- the one thing guaranteed to rescue me from the dumps is a genuine emergency. And boy do I have one. Water heater died, water leak happened, soaked carpet, some ruined books and pictures and the plumber said "The good news is... you have a new water heater. The bad news -- you've still got a leak." He found it (Lord, he was a cutie-pie, I wanted to adopt him). The insurance adjuster and the mold/water damage (yes, I have mold too) are on the same page as to what happened, the company has a good reputation for paying claims. The cats and I will be happy when the noisy humidifiers have left the building. (This has been going on for a week.) As for the stuff that was destroyed by mold... it's just stuff. I can get more stuff.

I'm glad you are now able to accept praise. The joke I tell against myself is that I can take anything but a compliment.

Best to you and your darlings.

For some reason, Corey, I did not get a Substack alert when you posted this. I was listening to Trae’s Steakisode on the way home from work. My goal was to make a quick stop at home, pick up my sons, change out of my scrubs and go to happy hour at a local restaurant with my colleagues. Unfortunately, my older son was not home yet from school (he commutes to SF State every day since he did not get housing this year) and my younger son is getting close to graduating and had some schoolwork he wanted to get started on since he and his brother and grandfather will be golfing this weekend. So I went to happy hour with my colleagues alone and had a couple of beers and a great time. A couple of my retired colleagues showed up so it was great to see them. Since I drink much less than I used to 2 pints, gave me a bit of a hangover this morning…..

Coffee is brewing. Sorry I missed your zoom! Make it an hour later next time if you could for us Friday night drinking West Coasters.

I watched Civil War last week and it was one of the most affecting movie experiences I've ever had. I've been thinking about it ever since. Just incredibly visceral, there were a few moments I felt physically nauseous. I've seen some mixed reviews online but personally I thought it was a masterpiece. The sound design is incredible and boy does it put you "right there" in the scene.

I'm really curious to hear what you thought, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if its one you feel earns a longer form review or pod!

Godspeed!

Corey, you put pep in our step rather than poop in our soup. Thank you.

Talking about people blocking the aisles at a store, I'm there with you. I was at a thrift store today with narrow aisles. A gaggle of four people were completely blocking one aisle standing having a gabfest. I wanted to tell them to get the fuck out of the way, but I bit my tongue and went down another aisle. Same thing happens at Walmart.

Edit: I saw both Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein in the theatres and, yes, I was one of those people who saw them multiple times and bought the VHS as soon as I could once players became a thing. Blazing Saddles came out late in my senior year of high school and I remember discussing it with people who saw it and didn't like it, dismissing it as slapstick. We never saw eye to eye and it's their loss.

Hey, bud. If you need a co-host for that movie podcast, holla at ya boy. I’ve been trying to find a steady co-host for a movie podcast for a couple years now and I could also talk about the Coens and Mel Brooks for a year! Glad your brain is being better to you lately. Love you, homie!

Last night I saw a great documentary called "Remembering Gene Wilder" and it was pretty damn amazing. I highly recommend - I saw it in my local old-ass theater, but I'm pretty sure you can stream it. Make sure you got your hanky handy for the end. The parts of the documentary what talked about Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein were great.

Glad your brain's doing better!

Keepin' it easy tonight - chili dogs and packing for a trip to NC for my uncle's 90th birthday tomorrow. Listen at ya Sunday, chief!

Our Sam's Club experience today, unfortunately all too common (Costco is an hour + drive away so Sam's it is).

Old white dude, minimum of 150 pounds overweight, wearing a bright colored t-shirt with huge letters from neck to (very expansive) waist, all in caps:

IF YOU DON'T LIKE TRUMP YOU WON'T LIKE ME.

AND I'M OK WITH THAT.

It’s good to hear from you, Corey and glad you are feeling better. Thank you for continuing to normalize mental health. It makes a difference in the world. ((Hug))

Boomers in Warehouse Stores would be a good band name, but not so much a fun day.

I’m judging the vegan sausage a bit, but huzzah for lowering your cholesterol 100 points!

I’m going to pick up a mirror off FB Marketplace, come home, watch Jeopardy and Farmer Wants A Wife, then have half a gummy and go to bed. And they say Gen X doesn’t know how to party on a Friday night.

Enjoy your movie!
