It is so important to talk about. I have been on medication for depression for over 20 years.. and can't say enough about how it has helped.. I have gotten better at saying I'm feeling down or hitting a rough patch.. finding an person to talk to is also important.. You're going to be a great Dad!

Thank you for you kind and thoughtful description of your mental world and the hope and remedies you have been successful with. When I was a young 21 year old my best buddy who was my older brother took his own life at the tender age of 23. I am much older now and have finally come to understanding his state of angst and depression. Back in 1977 they were still using shock therapy and a butch of drugs that did absolutely nothing for him. His death caused our family enormous damage in our future relationships and the effects are still being felt to this day.

I know that you will be doing just fine as you have found your passion in making people laugh and yet think at the same time. I am an ardent follower of your pods as well as Mr T Crowder. Damn fun bro!!!!

What you are saying is so very important. Boxes suck and cause heartache. Your child will be so fortunate to have you and Amber as parents!

Thank you. I'm much older than you are and had no idea as a teen what was happening to me. Not until recently have I been able to figure it out. So happy that young people are aware of these feelings, and there are some places that they can find acceptance. You will be a much more understanding and loving parent because of your acceptance and kindness ❤

Thank you for your honesty . AS someone who was constantly called "over sensitive", dramatic and /or one who would cry at the drop of a hat, it took many more years than you to come to terms with my depression and complete lack of self-esteem. I am 68 years old, will be on Anti-depressants for as long as I have left, literally saved my life. You are a gem and will make a great Daddy.

Corey, you comment that you’re not someone who “most people would even describe as intelligent” but I’m telling you if ‘most people’ listened to or read your essays including-no, especially-this one, that would not hold true. You have a gift for storytelling and I am amazed at the eclectic bits of history or data you use in those stories. Please don’t ever feel that you are less than.

Corey, I spent maybe 55 of my 58 years on Earth with emotional problems, problems that hurt me in school, kept me from finding a mate or keeping a job. My family's response for 40 of those years was exclusively talk therapy with a psychologist, because drugs are for REAL wackos, y'know. When I finally got a medical psychiatrist and medication, the world changed overnight. More power to you, son.

Well, someone else might put you in a box, but this post prompted me to do what I had been considering, which was to support you with a paid subscription. You keep being you, Corey.

Precious lamb (sorry, the older I get, the mushier I get) YOU DO YOU. I think you and your cohorts are just wonderful -- you have all been a comfort to me in this increasingly compromised world. Don't let yourself be herded into a category you don't like! Categories are like corsets, sometimes -- they don't let you breathe normally.
