I’m sad to say maternal mortality rates have increased in the US while infant mortality rates have decreased. Lots of reasons for both but there’s no reason women should die in childbirth anymore.
Something that wonders me (as they say here in Pennsylvania Deutschland) is the following.
What are the TRUE meaning of the words "liberal" and "conservative"?
I wrote to Molly Ivins once, asking her about this but never got an answer. (A) she had other things to do, I'm sure; and (b) I know for a fact that she had serious health problems. So, no hard feelings, Miss Molly, and I wish to hell you were still with us here on this bozo-infested planet...
Anyhow: "conservative" and "liberal" don't appear to have any real meaning except as insults to throw at what side is other than the one you happen to be on. One might as well say "poop-head" and "dick-wad". I am confident that one day, we will sink to that level. If we haven't already...
(Kind of like the word "bitch" which has SO many meanings that it almost has no meaning at all. Technically, it's a word to denote a female dog. It can also mean (a) a promiscuous woman; (b) a woman in a bad mood (PRESENT!); (c) a woman with an opinion; (d) a woman.
The only definition I've been able to come up with myself is cartoonish (like so much else in This Here World) but I fear it is all too true. Here goes:
Conservatives think that liberals just want to raise taxes so help can be given to poor people who don't deserve it.
Liberals think that conservatives just want to cut taxes so help can be given to rich people who don't need it.
