I think most people when they get misgendered will either interject the correct pronoun and let you keep going, or just say nothing because they're not willing to cause trouble and find out what the reaction would be. It may be different on Twitter or something but I don't go on there. In general the "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST ASSUMED MY GENDER!" thing seems like it's made up.

I love this. I agree that it’s best to tone things down in conversations, especially on the internet.

Written words lack the tone and inflections that give meaning to a statement.

If I say, “are you wearing THAT?” It sounds like an insult.

If I say, “are you wearing that” in a friendly tone, it could mean:

1. I’ll change my shirt so we’re not wearing the same color to the dinner

2. I’m so glad you like that shirt I gave you.

Or many other things.

We can be much more careful how we communicate our thoughts and always give our fellow Americans the benefit of the doubt.
