I think I remember that! Moved to this area when my dad retired from the army, 1969. Love your stories because I live here and can relate. Thank you for everything you put out ,it always makes my day.
I imagine every community has one of these perpetually unfinished "improvements". Here in Dutch Wonderland, the "Goat Path" appears to be on the verge completion. For decades, there has been a graded path from Morgantown (?) to Lancaster which was intended to be a Route 23 alternative, so the trucks and the buggies and the Amish on push scooters wouldn't have to share a very narrow road. However, no one could agree on the final connection to the route through the city. Best idea would have been to lop off a goodly portion of the Old Money White People Golf Club and that wasn't going to happen... so for years, horses, cattle, and goats grazed contentedly on the future bypass.
