I’m not familiar with the Jesus carving pictured at the end of the story. Now that I’ve seen it I agree it’s creepy as fuck!

When I was younger, maybe three summer after 3rd grade, my sister and I were babysat by my mom's great aunt. She was old school Catholic and made us go to church during the week. She had one of these Jesus things in the hallway entrance right by the bathroom. Scared the crap out of me and my 5 yr old sister .

As for funerals, Filipinos also kind of do it up like a party. My mom's wake was like 4 days and my non Filipino friends couldn't fathom all the party food being passed around and the chatting and laughing. It's what my mama would have wanted and very much a celebration of life.

It is too bad that sometimes that's the only way you see certain people, but that's life.

Your observation is every funeral I've ever attended in my 70 years. The White Diamond (eau de memaw ) was LOL!
