My South is south Louisiana, so the food is different, but the spirit is the same. I will add, though, that the south is built on the backs of black people, so defining the "South" without mentioning the black experience is a bit disingenuous, don't you think? I'm sure you do, I'm not trying to poke at you, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
Great post. I’m new to your blog but this will keep me coming back. Reminds me of all the summers I spent with my grandparents in Dinwiddie and Smithfield, VA. I’ve lived in New England for the past 40 years but my 400-year-old Virginia roots still run deep.
My wife and i thoroughly enjoy all that you do. Your videos on Twitter are ridiculously funny. If laughter is the best medicine, you sir, should have a PhD. 💯
Thank you for inspiring me to delete my Twitter account. The latest Bubba Shot The Podcast was fantastic. Goodbye Earl is a very special song. I was 19 in a very abusive relationship with my own Earl. That song gave me the strength to leave.
My late-father was from Mississippi. We were taught that was bad by my Japanese mother, who had divorced him. Thanks to you and the other progressive Southern comedians I can embrace my Southern roots and be proud Thanks and Love you tons. xoxo
You are young enough to be my son, but I have many of my same memories and associations are suggested in your essay. Your piece was evocative and lovely reading to the ear of a southerner who also appreciates the "issues" dominating southern culture.
My South
60 yo lesbian here. Of course I love sports but no dips for me. I like my chips straight.😁

Hey, that’s my south too except Eulene was called Aunt Carrie by the community and she was actually an Aunt to over half of them.
This was fantastic! Appalachian metronome! Thanks.

I love this so much. I grew up in what was once a small town and this was beautiful
Even with all of our faults, I wouldn't want to live anywhere other than the South.
