I had my 1st flare up ever 2 weeks ago & it was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced, so hang in there & get your pharmacist friend from high school to hook you up w/ some allopurinol.
Also, congrats on the bun in the oven, fellow dad! We had ours 15 years ago & it's terrifying how quickly she's grown up.
I'm sure you've heard tons of stuff from other dads, but here's some more unasked for sage advice from a grizzled veteran: 1) Schedule a baby moon w/ your wife before the kid shows up, because to paraphrase Bill Murray in Lost In Translation, once your kid is born, your life as you know it is over. It's not worse, it's just that it's no longer just about you. 2) Cherish every second w/ your kid that you can...even the sleepless nights, projectile vomiting/diarrhea & times that they talk back...'cause you'll blink and they'll be your grown up baby before you even realize it.
