Loving your 'digressions' and 'pretentious bs'. Kinda fits in with my vibe when it comes to God. KUTGW!

Had that whole Catholic thang pounded into my ass for 20 years. The scientist in me was always there making a mockery of any hope I ever had of being a believer. Never bought any of it. Even when I was six years old, I questioned it. Although I have to say as physician and an atheist, I am a far better Christian than many Christians.

I, like many, was raised Catholic and had it beaten into me from birth until I graduated high school. Also like many others, as soon as I left that space, I enthusiastically jumped onto the enlightened atheist bandwagon. But when I was 23 I took my first trip out west and saw the Rocky Mountains and the endless beauty that our national parks have to offer. From Yellowstone and the Tetons, to Yosemite to Arches. It was during that trip that I also found God in nature, as well as many of the views that you laid out here, Corey. I see a god in my son and my daughter and in the happy moments they bring me. Thank you for once again putting my feelings into words.

Always enjoy reading the Cho's thoughts. It is possible to find wonder, awe, and inspiration in nature and in those around us without calling it god.

I call myself a born-again Druid (because I like to draw trees).

I see god at the cancer center that I visit every weekday this month (finishing up treatment) -- I see it in the quiet, stoic courage of the people walking with canes or being pushed in wheelchairs. I see god in the gentleness of the people who work there, pushing the wheelchairs, lending someone an arm or a shoulder to lean on.

We're going to have to rescue ourselves through acts of kindness and justice. I'm afraid the political parties have sold themselves to the billionaires and the corporations. Not that it was ever easy to combine altruism and self-interest...

As for the seven day creation assertation -- was that Eastern Standard Time? I recommend either reading the play or watching the movie "Inherit the WInd". During the big courtroom show-down between Drummond and Brady (aka Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan) Drummond was able to trap Brady into admitting that "day" might not have meant a 24-hour day.

I like to think that creation is still going on, even though that might mean the human race destroying itself, as seems likely. Then the cats can take over. Or the dogs -- depending on your preference. (Which won't matter, if you happen to extinct.)

I just finished the book, The Founding Myth, by Andrew Seidel, who while he is most assuredly an atheist, wrote a very comprehensive argument against the whole Judeo-Christian founding of the US mythology, using more citations of the Bible than I've heard outside of church (though I haven't gone to church in 20 years). While that confirmation makes me feel like I'm on the rational side of this mess, it still doesn't help me see how we're getting out of it.

Thanks, Corey! I see god in nature, too, and occasionally in other human beings. This is what makes Trumpism so heartbreaking. Somehow,I believe Trump has perverted people’s souls to believe the poor can and should be erased, along with any one or any concept that makes Trump and his cult uncomfortable. Given that,it’s ODD, to me that they can embrace Nazi ideals so naively. And they are bent on making this country essentially the Turd Reich, in behavior. <Sound of heart breaking>

I'm not formally religious, I could best be described as Deist - Pantheist - Zen / Daoist Agnostic in a world which seeks to label, quantify, weigh, measure such things.

& to take " traditional " Judeo - Christian belief & WEAPONIZE it against those who aren't drones, slaves or zombie soldiers that go against the current.
