I have a plan to fix the gun thing that doesn't require new laws. (I don't think. I'm a gun owner in WI and the gun folk are just buying on that issue)
Classify assault weapons and other weapons of war as dangerous weapons. Like a cannon you have to apply and show competency.
Not illegal. Just gotta pass.
Do buy backs.
No weapons for violent felonies. And collect them. Put it towards the buy back and give the money to the victims restitution. And if that's paid, towards their fine.
Charge violent offenses. Any. As felonies.
Rape, animal abuse, domestic violence.
Any record of a violent offense means no special license for the classes of dangerous weapons.
It matters cause the next big thing? Might not even be a gun... Who knows it could be phasers?
We ought be thinking about mass casualty weaponry as not the same thing as a shot gun or 22 or muzzle load.

On the matter of the balloon, it’s been pointed ou that shooting balloon down over land means debris falls from the sky at great speed from a great height in a deadly fashion (it’s not actually a rubbery party balloon, it’s got structures and equipment… and whatever the missile is made of) and waiting till it went over shallow water was the way to go. Listening to your rant, I would not disagree with your views in anyway as they are succinctly in line with my own views be it concerning women’s healthcare or the situation in the Ukraine. If you were my neighbour I’d be proud to have you around.

I'm with you on not wanting guns in the house. I've got PTSD from my time in the military. When I have a trauma reaction, I want it to stop and stop NOW! I know I have no business carrying, especially in public, even though my DD-214 means I can pay the fee and get a concealed carry permit no questions asked, no training required. That's...not ideal.
That being said, we do have guns because my husband has no issues that would make it problematic - shotguns, pistols, and rifles - and I have ZERO clue how to use any of them.
On one hand, I want it to stay that way.
On the other, we've had some people pull some sketchy politically-based BS on our property because we had the audacity to have a few of those tiny Biden Harris signs in our yard for the last couple of weeks of October 2020, and I would love to have some semblance of being able to rack a shotgun and be all "Do ya realllllly want to do that?" if someone pulls in with less than honorable intentions in mind. That sound alone is enough to give you pause.
