I remember my first husband (he passed away in 2020) playing with my oldest son when I was pregnant with my 2nd son, getting a bit teary. He said, "I love David so much, how can I possibly love another child?" Very sweet. He figured it out.

Don't worry Corey, you will love all your children, no matter how many you have!

My wife is 7 months pregnant with our second child, and I completely understand your feeling about finding it impossible to imagine loving another child as much as you love your first. My son is everything in my life, and for a little while, there was almost a knot in my stomach when I thought about having to share my love for him with another child. But as Donald up above me pointed out, everyone explained that your love will grow. Remember the first time you realized that you love your son more than you knew you were even capable of? I imagine and hope that will happen again. We learned we are having a little girl, so I’ll have a son and a daughter, and now I couldn’t be more excited.

Hope you feel better soon!

Talking about a second child and "splitting my love", I've always felt that love isn't a finite resource, it expands. Time, on the other hand...

Talking about how you're feeling and thinking you might have long Covid, that's the reason I still avoid crowded places and mask up when I go into stores. I'm fully vaccinated, but covid is like nuclear waste, it might not hurt me, but I still don't want it on me because I don't know how it will affect me.

So many books, so little time. I've got authors I like and books by those authors, but I don't think I can say I have a favorite.

Talking about how you write, I dabble with writing stories and they often do what you described - the spring into my mind and all I have to do is write them down, like someone is dictating them. I may edit afterwards, but the basic story line must have been living in my head for a while until it was ready to be born.

Oh my sweet goodness gracious! Slaughterhouse Five, Catch 22, and anything by Hunter Thompson are my favorites. You be the bestest. My favorite passage is about Jesus and how they picked the wrong person to pick on that time.

Me Talk Pretty One Day and The Rooster. I’ve never laughed so hard and out loud while reading a book in my life. For real.

How I know a book is really good: it makes me want to be able to get inside the book and start slapping people. (Example: "Angela's Ashes" -- "Stop being mean to him!!!")

I've gotten to the point where I almost always read non-fiction because I get easily upset by what I read* -- so if I'm going to be all torn up by something in a book, it had better damn-sight be something that actually happened. I read "Bastard out of Carolina" and that story devastated me so much that I quit reading fiction for nearly two years.

*Another example: I read a book by Paul Gallico "The Three Lives of Thomasina" and had two epic fits of crying before I got through one-fourth of the book. My mother nearly took it from me. I only have to THINK of some books and I start to tear up. Not going to mention them here...

I think you should keep writing. In my humble, unsolicited, and possibly worthless opinion, you, Drew, and Trae come from a part of American society that isn't heard from often enough. If I had become that underpaid figure of fun, the old-maid high school English teacher, I'd probably be exiled for teaching "The Liberal Redneck Manifesto" in class.

my best to you and your darlings.

Buddy, my heart grew three sizes when you said your all-time favorite fiction book was Slaughter-House Five. Not only do I love Vonnegut to death but the best birthday gift I ever received and one of my prize possessions is a signed copy of his short story collection “Bagombo Snuff Box,” that my mom and dad gave me for my twenty-first birthday.
