You should watch Arrival if you haven’t - it has the aliens you’re hoping for. Also, sci-fi in general needs to be way less pessimistic so people can stop being afraid to develop the sort of radical transhumanist robot body in which I can be comfortable in my lifetime, or at least the life-extension technology to get me there.
